NGO Coalition for Sustainable Fisheries and Ocean Management.

Seeing the impending threat, KORAL, a coalition of nine NGOs, is created to remind stakeholders in the fisheries and ocean sector always to prioritize sustainable management and withhold the principle of participatory democracy with integrity.

The general policy direction of fisheries and ocean management in Indonesia under the current government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in 2019 – 2024 posses an imminent threat of ecology crisis (including the destruction of ocean ecosystem) and injustice. This direction is transparent due to the missing vision and mission of Indonesia as a pivotal center of the world’s maritime. The current policy direction also poses a threat to traditional sailors and communities along with the coastal areas of remote islands in Indonesia. The infamous Omnibus Law also emphasize in the reckless process of investment which ignores the conservation of the ecosystem and the livelihoods of marginal community in the fisheries and ocean sector.
