Workshop on Building a Restorative Bioeconomy in Tanah Papua

The “Building a Restorative Bioeconomy in Tanah Papua” workshop, held on September 3–4, 2025, at Hotel Vega in Sorong, served as a vital collaborative forum for shaping a new development pathway in Tanah Papua. The initiative was organized by the EcoNusa Foundation in partnership with strategic collaborator Kopernik, bringing together stakeholders from multiple sectors.

This workshop emphasized the need to position Indigenous Peoples as key actors—not merely as recipients—of development initiatives rooted in local wisdom. Discussions focused on integrating sustainability principles, environmental protection, and strengthening village economies through a restorative bioeconomy approach. This model seeks to balance human well-being with ecological integrity.

Through meaningful exchange of ideas, experiences, and actionable plans, the workshop marked an important milestone in fostering synergy among government, Indigenous communities, academia, and development partners. Together, they aim to build a just and sustainable future for Tanah Papua.
