Strengthening Food Security Through Organic Upland Rice Cultivation in Nagura Village, Kaimana

Food security is a fundamental pillar of national development. It encompasses not only the availability of sufficient food, but also community access to safe, nutritious, and sustainable sources of nourishment. In Kaimana, West Papua, most households rely on store-bought rice as their staple food. A significant portion of their household expenses goes toward purchasing rice, much of which is sourced from outside the province.

To address this challenge, the EcoNusa Foundation is supporting communities in Nagura Village, Kaimana, by promoting upland rice cultivation to meet household food needs. This intervention began in April and moved into the planting phase in May. In addition, community members have been trained to produce and apply organic fertilizers and pesticides to support sustainable farming practices.
