Strengthening Collaboration for Sustainable Governance and Local Economy in Sarmi District

On 25 March 2025, EcoNusa Foundation conducted a series of strategic meetings in Sarmi District to follow up on the planned signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the local government. The primary agenda focused on supporting the preparation of regional planning documents—such as the RPJMD, KLHS RTRW, and RDTR—while advancing the local economy through community-based cocoa and copra development.

During meetings with the Regent of Sarmi and local stakeholders, EcoNusa outlined its contributions since 2022, including the review of palm oil permits, post-harvest cocoa training, and the facilitation of copra exports from the eastern coast. The local government expressed strong appreciation, particularly given limited public funding and increasing pressure from land-based investments. A shared commitment was made to accelerate spatial planning, indigenous land mapping, and the strengthening of community-driven economies grounded in local wisdom.
