On July 1, 2024, an important event was conducted in Negeri Waru, Maluku Province, aimed at enhancing the quality of cultivation and post-harvest practices among local nutmeg farmers. This event was a follow-up to the Cooperation Agreement between EcoNusa Foundation and the Department of Agriculture of Maluku Province, supported by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Provincial Government of Maluku.The activity was attended by 35 members from two farmer groups, namely the Kilbaren and Fesan groups, and was inaugurated by the Head of the Negeri Waru BPN (National Land Agency). The Department of Agriculture of East Seram Regency played a pivotal role as the main facilitator, with Mr. Idris Rumalean leading the training sessions.
Participants were not only imparted with theoretical knowledge but also engaged in practical sessions covering disease prevention and stem cutting techniques for nutmeg plants. Additionally, there was a session on the assessment of local conditions and the distribution of equipment for constructing mini drying houses. The assessment activities and construction of drying houses will continue until July 6, 2024, demonstrating a shared commitment to improving the welfare and productivity of local nutmeg farmers in Maluku. This initiative marks a significant step towards supporting sustainable agriculture and local economic development in the region.
