Documentation Process for Completing Customary Law Community Profiles and Customary Forest Management in Sorong Regency

The recognition of customary territories has been officially issued for several clans and sub-tribes in Sorong Regency and South Sorong Regency. The process of recognizing customary forests requires harmonious collaboration between indigenous communities, local governments, and the central government. In Sorong Regency, recognition has been granted to Klafyo Village (Koso, Gisim, Blon Clans) and Waimon Village (Fadan Clan).

This process involves field verification and the collection of Customary Law Community Profiles, including history, assets, customary institutions, maps, and forest management plans. The recognition of customary forests is a crucial step in respecting and protecting the rights of indigenous communities over their land and natural resources. In addition to providing economic and social benefits, this recognition also opens opportunities for enhancing welfare through sustainable forest utilization in line with local wisdom.
