Aksi Muda Jaga Iklim 2024: 65.000 Young People Take Action Against the Climate Crisis at 1.285 Location Across Indonesia

The Legacy of the Youth Pledge Lives On! Ninety-six years ago, Indonesia’s youth united in pursuit of independence. Today, we continue their fight by protecting our planet. Over 65,000 young people across Indonesia have joined forces in the 2024 Youth Climate Action (Aksi Muda Jaga Iklim – AMJI), taking tangible climate action in 1,285 locations across the nation. Together, we are proving that the younger generation is the solution for a sustainable future. The Plastic Monster Parade created a buzz in seven major cities across Indonesia—Makassar, Ambon, Jakarta, Pontianak, and Sorong—led by Penjaga Laut, EcoDefender, the EcoNusa Foundation, and Metis. Meanwhile, the initiatives in Salatiga were spearheaded independently by SMP Stella Maris, and in Gorontalo by Japesda. This creative action has raised awareness of the critical threat of plastic waste and has inspired behavioral change towards environmentally-friendly practices.

From Sabang to Merauke, the spirit to protect the earth ignites! AMJI 2024 features activities like the planting of thousands of mangroves, beach cleanups, turtle hatchling releases, coral transplantation, and various other eco-friendly initiatives. With support from 89 national and nearly 200 local partners, these actions reflect a unified commitment to playing an active role in preserving the planet for future generations. AMJI 2024 demonstrates the immense potential of Indonesian youth to become agents of change and global leaders in climate action. Let us continue to innovate and inspire the world!
