In 2050, it is predicted that there will be more plastic wastes in the ocean compared to the fishes itself. This prediction is strengthened with research by Jenna Jambeck from Georgia University, The United States of America. The study was published in 2015 and uncovered Indonesia as the second biggest country in Asia who contributed the most plastic wastes.

Seeing the gravely threatened environment due to plastic wastes, it becomes highly urgent to create a collaborative movement to raise awareness about the danger of single-use plastic to the environment, specifically to the ocean and human health.

We need to act together to prevent further damage to the ocean due to plastic wastes. Beach clean up day will serve as a campaign to raise awareness to the general public and to mobilize the general public in Makassar to minimize the use of single-use plastic.
