Doberai Lounge and Gallery: A Journey Through the Taste and Heritage of Papua

On Monday, June 23, 2025, Doberai Lounge & Gallery was officially launched at Domine Eduard Osok (DEO) Airport in Sorong. An initiative by the EcoNusa Foundation, this space serves as a meeting point between travelers and the rich cultural heritage of Papua, while also acting as a showcase of Indigenous community empowerment.

More than 50 curated products from local MSMEs across regions such as South Sorong, Tambrauw, and Raja Ampat are exhibited in the gallery. Each item tells a story of ancestral land, ocean heritage, and living traditions. From cashew-based creations, fermented shrimp paste, and local coffee to handcrafted goods—every product reflects a harmonious blend of nature, culture, and local innovation.

Beyond the products, Doberai Lounge also presents authentic Papuan cuisine, including mashed taro and smoked fish. These dishes are prepared with local ingredients and traditional recipes, offering a meaningful culinary experience for travelers, visitors, and those passing through the eastern gateway of Indonesia.

Through this space, Indigenous Papuans not only share their culture with the world but also strengthen a sustainable, village-based economic chain. Doberai stands as a small window into the vast spirit of Papua—abundant, resilient, and open to the world.
