Following the issuance of the Decree on the Recognition of Customary Lands for 10 clans, it is crucial to provide training on the sustainable management of these lands. This aims to avoid policy overlaps between Customary Law Communities (MHA) and the government while introducing the Social Forestry Scheme. EcoNusa Foundation invites indigenous communities from various regions to participate in the “Sustainable Management of Customary Lands: Training and Introduction to Social Forestry Scheme” workshop from July 13-15, 2024. The workshop is designed to minimize conflicts between MHA and the government through effective coordination, ensuring harmonious management of customary lands.
The workshop will be attended by representatives from various clans and regions, including Marga Aresi, Malalu, Fadan, Igip, Koso, Blon, Gisim, and Ulim Abgies Pela – Ulimpa Obokmala from Kampung Waimon, as well as representatives from Malaumkarta Raya in Sorong Regency, MHA Nakin Onim Fayas and MHA Mogatemin Omnisefa from Sorong Selatan, Manokwari Selatan, Ireres, and Bintuni (Tugurama and Warganusa). Participants are expected to develop concrete and sustainable management plans for their customary lands, understand the necessary documents and procedures for proposing their lands as Customary Forests, and prepare these documents independently.
