EcoNusa Foundation conducted a training program on cocoa management and post-harvest practices for farmers in Kampung Topo, Nabire Regency, Central Papua Province, from July 22-26, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance farmers’ skills in sustainable agricultural practices, including effective pest control using organic insecticides and improving cocoa seed quality through grafting methods. By implementing these practices, it is expected that cocoa from Kampung Topo will meet certification standards, allowing farmers to attract buyers from outside the region and achieve higher prices. Additionally, farmers will be able to produce their own high-quality cocoa seeds.
The training was attended by 24 local farmers and supported by the Nabire Regency Government, which is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural development and improving community welfare. Investing in farmers’ capacity building is expected to strengthen the region’s economic resilience and support inclusive growth in the agricultural sector.
